  1. All tile materials are not created equal. Materials choices can range from easy care rectified porcelains to glass, glazed ceramic, mosaics and natural stones.

  2. Choose one color or material to unify the space and make a small bathroom space feel larger.

  3. Use colorful patterns or textures to create interest behind the vanity or in the shower inset.

  4. Bold accents—a little goes a long way in a bathroom space.

  5. Large or small format? The Rule—there are no rules and linear shower drains allow for larger tile formats versus smaller formats on the shower floor. Larger tiles carried to the bathroom ceiling can create the appeal of a larger room volume.

  6. Strike a direction—vertical patterns can be uplifting to the eye whereas horizontal pattern can expand the room.

  7. Allow grout to become part of the design. Even a subtle grey grout can be interesting with a white ceramic tile. Always test the grout color before you begin.

  8. Spa-like watery colors and warm tile colorations can create a sense of calm.

  9. Consider the care and maintenance with your selections. Natural stones may become etched by beauty products and harsh bathroom cleaners and require routine sealing for upkeep; whereas, porcelain tile can be cleaned easily with bathroom cleaners

  10. Create a statement that best reflects you.
