ST. HELENA ISLAND, SC
Low Country
Low Country gets its name for the low-lying region or coastal sand plains along the South Carolina and Georgia coasts as well as a gentle southern culture where big porches, casual entertaining, palmetto trees and shrimp boats are at home.
When these homeowners decided to retire to South Carolina, we were excited to be a part of their design journey. They wanted a kitchen that reflected gentle coastal charms and was gracious and welcoming for guests.
This simple kitchen layout is a cook’s dream space with a generous ten-foot island for prepping and entertaining. Careful consideration for the island placement allows Bob to be the master of ceremony at the cooking range with easy access to the outdoor grilling center, while guests are entertained and casually circulate in the space. Quickly his low country sauteed shrimp and pea puree have become a crowd favorite on the island as he eases into retirement.
The kitchen reflects a clean, transitional style. The island granite mimics the sandy shores at the beach while the warm white cabinetry was paired with a rustic wood plank floor, Balboa Mist Benjamin Moore paint color and concrete island pendants for texture.
